TRAPPED
INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION
ARDUNIO, TOUCH DESIGNER, BLENDER
2021

This artwork is a commentary on the redundancy of temperature-taking machines during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how it mirrors the sense of false choice and security that individuals may have felt about their ability to control the spread of the virus. The sensor-based installation allows viewers to believe that they can influence the outcome by moving closer or farther away, but in reality, there is no end to the pandemic and individual actions had little impact on the country's decisions, which were primarily based on economic considerations. The artist suggests that the situation is a "limbo" between pandemic and endemic, and people are unwillingly stuck in this game for the foreseeable future. 'Trapped' uses Ardunio and Touch Designer to translate the interactions of viewers onto the screen. The distance you are from the sensors affects the visuals and movement of the character on screen.
Rendered 3D version of Singapore based on Google maps.
